How many treatments?
This will naturally be one of the first questions most owners will have. It can only be accurately answered on an individual basis for each patient but suffice to say in most cases a single treatment is not enough.
The aim of Chiropractic is to regain and restore normal mobility and alignment in the spine. To retain this improved function the Chiropractors job is similar to that of an orthodontist fitting a brace in that over a period of time several concurrent adjustments and corrections may need to be made to the same area until the body accepts the correction and the ligaments and muscles support and maintain the normal motion.
It is true to say however, that most horses and dogs show significant improvement over one to four treatments. Chronic problems will normally take longer to resolve compared to acute problems but in any case where I'm not satisfied with the rate of improvement, then the animal will be referred back to the primary care veterinarian to re-examine the initial complaint for any underlying pathology.
